Triffid is a bold contemporary, botanical painting inspired by the dramatic shapes found in nature. Strong organic forms emerge from layers of colour and texture, creating a strong precence. The warm coral and melon tones are softened by the turquiose accents in a playful way. The turquoise accents provide a freshness and vibrancy. For me, Triffid captures the joy of creating something bold, expressive and uplifting. The painting is full of movement, colour and detail. Large organic forms overlap and interact, creating a sense of growth and energy while inviting the viewer to pause and explore the smaller patterns hidden throughout the work.

What I love about this piece

This painting began as an exploration of the fascianting shapes and structures found in nature. I wanted it to be sculptural. It represents seed pods and other botanical forms from my summer garden and I wanted to exaggerate thier scale, allowing them to dominate the canvas and to take on a personality of thier own. I live in a sub tropical area and my garden can sometimes feel wild and out of control due to the fast growth here. Being in the garden often inspires me to start a painting and Triffid is a great example of just that.

As both interior designer and artist, I create artwork that not only stands on it's own but also enhances the spaces in which it is displayed. My work is inspired by colour, nature and the way art can transform a room and create emotional connection with a home.
