ARTISTS STATEMENT

I have been an interior designer and commercial artist since the 1990'S. My art was self-taught for many years before recently studying fine art to expand my knowledge of a variety of techniques. I work in acrylics and oils and my work is typically large scale although I have recently been experimenting with smaller scale. 

My design career has allowed me to play with colour and composition every day with hands on colour theory and composition - real time experimentation through my busy design consultancy. I grew up in a creative environment and have appreciated art for most of my life. I have been inspired and influenced by many sources: native and tribal artists, abstract expressionism, post Impressionism and modern figurative styles. 

My art often includes natural themes and fluid shapes or curves. My subject matter is colourful life and nature inspired. Living with beautiful objects that pay tribute to the natural world reminds us to slow down and helps us reconnect with nature. I believe that the soft forms of my work perfectly complements the hard edges of modern architecture.

My goal is to inspire those who see my work to look more carefully at the world around them, to discover beauty in unusual places. 

Being an artist excites me, keeps me feeling young - each work of art is like starting a new and exciting adventure.
